In the internet age, last minute travel isn’t such a scary thing. Entire vacations can be planned in the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee, and many people do just that. It’s not all that challenging either, and just about anyone can do it. Still, when planning for last minute travel, there are mistakes that can be made. Some mistakes aren’t that big of a deal but some can be quite costly.
The following takes a look at some of the things you should be aware of when planning a trip without much notice. These are the kinds of things that can go wrong so you’ll know what to watch out for. Hopefully with this little heads up, you won’t encounter these problems yourself.
Misunderstanding the time:
This may sound like a no brainer but you’d be surprised how often this error can screw people up. Most airlines and travel websites use a twenty-four hour time system. That’s where you see 1600 instead of 4pm. Be careful that you interpret it right, and that you realize that 800 is almost always 8am and never 8pm.
Getting to the airport late:
Planning last minute travel is one thing but showing up late for your traveling is another. When it comes to airlines you should always show up early. Very early. Generally they say that people should show up for any international flight about three hours early. You’ll find that in most cases this isn’t necessary anymore, but why risk it? Chances are you won’t be refunded for a missed flight just because security held you up longer than you expected.
Packing far too much:
When planning a vacation, packing always seems to be the hardest part. When planning for last minute travelling careful packing can be overlooked altogether. This results in people saying that they’ll just throw way too much in the bag and sort it out when they get there. Forget the back pain this will cause and think about the money it will cost. Airports charge a small fortune for hauling around bags that weigh too much. Don’t get caught paying extra just because you packed too much underwear.
Location is everything:
Another thing that a lot of people decide to figure out when they get to their destination is, well, everything. Sometimes it’s great to just get on a plane, check in at a hotel and then figure out the days once you’re there. Think of your town or city, though. Is every hotel situated in the best location for casual tourists? Probably not. So make sure you don’t just blindly book the cheapest hotel. Find one that’s located close to where you’ll want to be.
Other people have holidays, too:
If you are planning last minute travel for a holiday, remember that other people may have that holiday too. In fact, the place that you’re traveling to may be close to shut down on a holiday. The last thing you want is to travel somewhere only to find that all the restaurants and fun places to go are shut down for a day or two. Check into this first, otherwise you’ll end up feeling stranded in your hotel.
